Lindberg “Lindy” M. Zak, 83, of Appleton, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2011. He was born June 10, 1927, son of the late Albert and Ida (Jarvey) Zak. Lindy was married to Elizabeth “Betty” (Motl) for nearly 60 years. She preceded him in death on May 17, 2009.
Lindy served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII as a SSGT, earning the Victory medal, and the Army occupation medal of Japan. He was a charter member of St. Thomas More Parish since 1963. He was employed at James River for 44 years, retiring in 1987 as an oiler.
He is survived by his seven children, Steve (Colleen) Zak, Appleton and their children: Monica (Chad) Gray, Angie Zak, Corey (Amy) Zak, Erin (Rich) Williams, and Todd Zak; Dave (Shirley) Zak, Pine River, and their children: Nicole, Stacy, and Kayla Zak; Connie (Dan) McClintock, Mackville and their children: Ryan, Erik (Steph), and Scott McClintock; Jeff (Elaine) Zak, Appleton and their children, Michelle (Brad) Garrity, and Shawn Zak; Chris Baseman, Seymour and her children: Brian (Erin) Baseman, Kevin Baseman, Lana (Jess) Burchill, and Angie (Cole) Bogart; Tim (Joan) Zak, Little Chute and their children, Courtney (Jesse) Marnocha, Kyle, Jarred, and Tyler Zak; and Stu (Maureen) Zak, Menasha and their child, Jason; 19 great-grandchildren; he is further survived by two sisters, Jean Weber, Appleton, and Patricia (Jim) Murphy, Appleton. He was preceded in death by seven sisters, Vi Mayer, Arlene Sonnleitner, Rosemary Locke, Helen Jane Allen, Ellen Anderson, June Zak, and Mary Zak; three brothers, Chet, Randy, and Albert Jr. and a son-in-law, David Baseman.
Funeral service will begin at 11:00 am on Friday, June 10, 2011 at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH 1810 North McDonald Street, Appleton, with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Wichmann Funeral Home. A parish prayer and scripture service will be held at 7:30 pm. Visitation will continue Friday at the church from 10:00 am until the hour of service. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park.
