It is with deep sorrow and great love that the family of Linda Jean Voster announces her passing at the age of 77, on Monday, October 13, 2025. Linda was born January 7, 1948, in Syracuse, NY to the late Gerald Edward Young and Mary Elizabeth McAvan.
Linda was raised in Syracuse by her mother and beloved step father, John J. Alexander. Linda’s extensive family included one sister, six step-sisters, a step-brother, and four half-sisters; a lively and rambunctious household, indeed. When she was 20 years old, through her best friend, Linda met the “sweet, blue-eyed midwestern boy”, David L Voster, while he was serving in the US Navy. She loved him all of her life, “before they even met” as she waited for him to find her, and every single day since. David and Linda married in Appleton on March 15, 1969.
Fiercely loyal and deeply loving, Linda instilled in her daughters the same strength, independence, kindheartedness, and sincerity that defined her. A savvy businesswoman, Linda purchased and reinvigorated the Fox Valley Builders Exchange (now Builders Exchange of WI), of which she was the owner and executive director for 20 years. Linda worked tirelessly and deftly navigated the ups and downs of the construction industry to ensure the continuation of her thriving business which remains family-owned and operated. Linda moved into the Primrose Retirement Community with her faithful and cherished Westie terrier rescue, Mallaig, in 2018 where she quickly found her role as social coordinator, resident networker, vocal spokesperson, and consummate entertainer. She regularly conducted trivia on Friday afternoons, showed movies in the theater on Sundays, and mindfully maintained the resident directory. Her family is extremely grateful for the community she found at Primrose and the many giggles she shared with her dear friends there.
Linda is survived by her daughters Amy Hill (Randy) Harper, Appleton and Heather Brooke (Michael Bentley) Voster; grandsons, Alexander Michael and Tristen Young (Cassidy Jade Rodensal) Voster; and great granddaughter Emory Jade Rodensal.
Linda was preceded in death by her father, mother, and step-father, her mother-in-law Josephine A. Voster, father-in-law Louis J. Voster, and her beloved husband David.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 North Superior Street in Appleton, WI on Thursday October 23, 2025. Family and friends are welcome to come by between 3pm and 6pm to greet her family and share memories. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Westie Rescue USA Inc or the animal rescue organization of your choosing.
