Age 84, passed away at home on Wednesday, September 9, 2009. Roy was born in Sherwood, Wisconsin on November 5, 1924, the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Meehl) Ciske. On April 26, 1947, he married Lorraine Discher at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Neenah. He attended Appleton schools and resided in Appleton most of his life. Roy served in the Navy during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart in 1945 after being wounded in action. After the war, he graduated from Green Bay Business College. He worked thirty-two years as a property records supervisor with Wisconsin Michigan Power Company, now known as WE Energies. Following this, he was employed by the United States Post Office in Appleton for six years before retiring. Roy enjoyed traveling, a good game of sheepshead, and all sports, especially golf and bowling. Upon retirement, Roy and Lorraine spent their winters in the South. Their cottage on Archibald Lake near Townsend provided many precious memories. Roy was very proud of his granddaughters, Katie and Jennifer, and enjoyed watching them grow up.
Roy will be dearly missed by his wife of 62 years, Lorraine; son William (Pam) Ciske of Appleton; and granddaughters: Katie and Jennifer Ciske. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Catherine Ciske.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 18, 2009 at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 N. McDonald Street in Appleton with Fr. Gerald Falk officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of your choice.
