Lenore Jane Domers, age 87, passed away on January 29, 2026, at Rennes Health and Rehab in Appleton. She was born on January 16, 1939, to the late Joseph and Hilda (Achterhof) Domers, in Grand Haven, MI. Lenore’s early education was in the Catholic school system, where she learned the true value in having a personal faith. Upon graduating from high school, she entered Marquette University and went on to earn a BSN. Following that achievement she entered the U.S. Air Force as a flight nurse and followed one of her earliest dreams-entering the military! She went on to earn a master’s in nursing and put that to excellent use as a nurse practitioner and nurse manager with the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. For 25 years, Lenore served, helped, and taught those who serve our country. In her “retirement” Lenore found joy in serving in the field of home care and hospice. Always educationally passionate, Lenore then earned a master’s in theology and put the combination of her nursing and theology to wonderful use as a palliative care and hospice chaplain.
In her free time, Lenore found passion in ballroom dancing. She participated in a dance club for many years. She did showcase dancing and has a collection of hats that is most impressive! The friends she made in that group became part of her core circle. It was a true joy in her life through her retirement years. The artistry of the dancing provided personal joy that balanced out the scientific acumen and constant providing of care that was necessary in her professional career.
Lenore is survived by her siblings: Veronica Harris, Michael (Kathleen) Domers, sister-in-law Micheline Domers, a niece and 3 nephews; as well as other relatives and friends. Lenore was preceded in death by husband Robert Merrill, MD, her parents, her brother Joseph Domers and infant brother Henry.
A funeral service for Lenore will take place on Friday February 6, 2026, at 10:00am at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N Superior Street, Appleton. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home from 9:30am until the service begins. Lenore will be laid to rest at Forest Home Cemetery, Milwaukee.
