Leland H. Raab, of Appleton, age 85, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2009 after a short illness. He was born October 12, 1923 in Colby, Wisconsin, the son of the late Jesse and Vivian (Shape) Raab. At an early age the family moved to Loyal, Wisconsin. Lee graduated from the Loyal High School and was drafted into the United States Army during WWII. He was in the Normandy Invasion, serving under General Patton with the military police.
After serving his country, he moved to Berlin, Wisconsin where he worked with his uncle John Schupe in the Sportsman Manufacturing Company, making leather jackets, gloves, gun cases, etc. He moved to Appleton in 1958 where he became manage at the AAA office. Bud later was an independent insurance agent.
Lee was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Appleton, Beja Shrine and Shrine Club of Appleton. Sixty-two year member of the Free and Accepted Mason, serving as worshipful master at Berlin Lodge #38 F & AM during this time period. He was a member of the Appleton Lodge #349 F & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Green Bay, Kiwanis Golden Ages Club and the Johnston-Blessman Post #38 – American Legion.
Leland is survived by his wife: Lois Raab, Appleton; sister: Evelyn (Harland) Bergmann, Wisconsin Rapids; sisters-in-law: Elaine Albright, Berlin and Donna Albright, Poy Sippi; special nieces and nephews: Patricia Schultz, Ripon; Gary and Diane Booth, Berlin; Larry and Sue Albright, Poy Sippi and Fred Albright, Black River Falls. He is further survived by many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Vivian Raab; brother, Earl Raab; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harry and Julia Albright and brothers-in-law, Melvin and Raymond Albright.
The funeral service for Leland will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 325 E. Franklin Street, Appleton. Dr. Doyle Blanton and Rev. Grace Cajiuat will be officiating. Entombment with full military honors will be held at Highland Memorial Park. The visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9:30 am until the Masonic Service at 10:45 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to First United Methodist Church and the Borth United Methodist Church.
