Lawrence L. Dorn Sr.

May 6, 1929 — January 5, 2022

Lawrence Lester Dorn of
Ft. Meyers, Florida & Menasha, Wisconsin.
Heaven gained one feisty and unforgettable angel on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Larry Dorn Sr. is now at peace with the love of his life and his two sons.
Born on May 26, 1929, in Greenville, Wisconsin, to the late Daniel and Charlotte (Ulman) Dorn. On June 6, 1950, Larry married Dolores Van Daalwyk and they shared 42 beautiful years together. After her passing, he married Billie Jean Boykin on April 4, 1994, and they shared 21 happy years together.
Larry was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army. Following the war, Larry drove school bus in Indiana until his honorable discharge, then went to work as a truck driver and dispatcher in his earlier years. With only an 8th grade education, a strong will, hard work, intelligence & determination, he founded Dorn’s Delivery and Transfer, Inc. in Appleton, WI in 1962. The trucking & warehousing company was truly his passion with his legacy still going strong after 60 years, with his grandchildren currently owning and operating the business.
He was a life-long, God fearing member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Appleton and Church of the Resurrection in Ft. Meyers. His strong faith kept him going and he never missed a day of obligation. Larry was an avid golfer into his 90’s and belonged to Ridgeway, Kelly Greens, and Cypress Lakes Golf Club where he liked to “drink beer & tell lies” with his buddies “the gangsome”. Larry was great at telling others exactly what he thought and often had a “my way or the highway” attitude. Despite his tough words, he had a sense of humor and enjoyed when people gave it right back to him. He cherished the card games with nieces/nephews and time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by three treasured grandchildren: Lawrence (Kristin) Dorn III, Jennifer (Matt) Vandenberg, and Elizabeth (Cory)Robinson. Eight great-grandchildren: Lawrence “Law” & Katalina Dorn, Chase, Sanibel, Denver, & Levi Vandenberg, Maxwell & Millie Robinson. “Daughter-in-law” Betsy Stark (Rich Bower), sisters Charlotte Koerner and Bea Otto. Family like neighbors & incredible friends-Kevin & Karen Winter (Ft. Myers) and many special nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Larry was preceded in this life by his parents; his wives Dolores and Billie Jean, son’s Lawrence “Larry” Dorn, Jr. and Steven Dorn, 10 siblings, and numerous in-laws.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated
at 4:30 PM on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont Street, Appleton. The family will receive guests from 2:30pm until the time of Mass. Following the service, dinner will be provided at Starlite Club in Kaukauna at 6:30pm.
Larry’s legacy continues through his three grandchildren and his eight precious great-grandchildren, whom he loved with all his heart! Under his tough exterior, there was a heart of gold and a definite soft spot for those he loved. His unforgettable laugh & unique wit will continue to bring smiles to all who knew him. Well done grandpa, you are loved.
