ECKES, LAVERN ARTHUR

LaVern “Vern” Arthur Eckes, 86, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. Vern was born on March 11, 1924 to Andrew and Frances (Sautner) Eckes in Marshfield. He was united in marriage to Lucille Steinke on March 16, 1942 in Marshfield and served in the US Army during WWII. He worked for Wisconsin Michigan Power for over 30 years as the company photographer. Vern was an avid golfer and played on the company team for many years and he also enjoyed collecting coins, and being a volunteer at many places especially the VA. He was a member of the Waverly Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and the First English Church. Vern is survived by his wife, Lucille, Appleton, four daughters; Barb( Jim) Hinzman, Appleton, Sandra Hackney, Pittsboro, NC, Nancy (Tom) VanderHeiden, Wrightstown, and Sue (John) Woodliff, Waupaca, grandchildren; Dawn Krueger, Brian Hinzman, Laura (Dave) Farrell, Mike (Cindy)VanderHeiden, Carri Rosera, Rob (Lindsey) VanderHeiden, Jenny (Scott) Borley, Tom VanderHeiden, Jeremy (Christie)Woodliff, Todd Dumke, Scott (Nancy) Dumke, Nick (Sherrie) Hackney, Landon (Jodie) Hackney, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, one brother-in-law; Layton (Bev) Steinke, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Duane “Duke”, a sister Eileen Todero and a grandson David Woodliff.
A funeral service for LaVern will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the HIGHLAND MEMORIAL PARK STAR OF HOPE CHAPEL (3131 N. Richmond Ave.) with Pastor Michael Dismer officiating. Entombment will be in the Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the services. Memorials may be made to the Martha Siekman Cancer Center.
