Lawrence James Maharg, 79, of Graton, California passed away on April 18, 2023, with his devoted and loving wife Karen by his side.
Born on June 28, 1943, in Cass City, Michigan to Maxine Trudeau and Ken Maharg. Larry was the eldest of four sons. He rose every morning faithfully at 5am to milk the cows and help his dad on the farm before school. He developed a long-lasting love for animals and for the land, which he carried through his entire life. Larry loved dogs. He loved gardening and landscaping. He loved being out on the golf course.
After he graduated, Larry landed his first sales job with Uniroyal Tire in Michigan. This kickstarted a long and rewarding career in sales and marketing. In 1967 Larry married Janet Troy of Royal Oaks, Michigan. They had daughters Sherri and Jennifer. In 1980 he married Karen Zwiers of Kalamazoo, Michigan and they had Kristin and Steve. In 1997 Larry started his 20 year career at US Venture in Wisconsin as a marketing manager. Larry was very dedicated to his job and his family. He was a strong, hard-working, loving father and husband. He was a devout Catholic and an active member and head usher at St. Bernard’s for many years. His faith and his family meant everything to him.
Larry is survived by his wife, Karen Maharg of California; brothers John Maharg of Ohio, James Maharg of Connecticut, Jefferson Maharg of Michigan; daughters Sherri Sirna of Wisconsin, Jennifer Fanning of Wisconsin, Kristin (Mike) Suarez of California; son Steve Maharg of California; grandchildren Magnolia and Jacoby Suarez. He is predeceased by his mother Maxine Maharg and father Ken Maharg.
A time to gather and greet the family will take place Friday, April 28, 2023, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at St Bernard's Catholic Church, 1617 W Pine St, Appleton. Friends and family may gather again at the church on Saturday April 29, at 10:00am until the start of mass at 11:00am. Larry will be laid to rest privately at St Mary's Cemetery, Appleton.
Larry’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Primrose Memory Care and Anchor Health Hospice for their exceptional compassion and care.
