Kenneth Robert Nelson, age 57, of Appleton, passed away Saturday evening, January 17, 2009, at his home.
Kenneth was born July 1, 1951, in Wisconsin Rapids, WI to James Nelson and Clara Clark-Anderson. He was a graduate of Waterloo High School, Class of 1969. Kenneth received his bachelor's degree in accounting at UW Whitewater in 1973.
On June 3, 1972, Kenneth was united in marriage to Bonnie Retzlaff in Lake Mills, WI.
After graduation Ken was the company accountant for Van Holten's in Waterloo, WI. In 1974 Ken was employed at United Bank of Madison and transferred in 1985 to Valley Bank, now known as M&I Bank in Appleton. He was senior Vice President of Finances for M&I Support Services Company.
A long time participant in and lover of rock band music, Ken played with numerous small bands, most recently was a member of the Faros for the past 18 years. He was the keeper of the family genealogy, enjoyed collecting music memorabilia and stamps. Most of all he was a wonderful husband and father, who was always encouraging and supporting.
In addition to his wife, Bonnie, Kenneth is survived by his two sons: Mark and Bryan, of Menasha; his daughter Michelle, of Appleton; his parents: James Nelson, of Waterloo, WI and Clara Anderson, of Portage, WI; two brothers: Clark (Sara) Nelson and Tim (Mary) Nelson; two sisters: Colleen (Jack) Erdmann and Debra Nelson; and many other relatives and friends.
Ken is preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth Jr.
Funeral Services for Kenneth will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at Mount Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church, 930 East Florida Ave., Appleton. Rev. Joel M. Zank will be the officiant. A time of visitation and support will be held Tuesday, January 20, 2009, from 4-7:00 p.m. at Wichmann Funeral Home, 527 N. Superior Street, Appleton and again at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Kenneth's name.
