Obituary

Karletta “Kay” Marie Oudenhoven, age 79, passed away on April 11, 2026, at ThedaCare in Appleton. She was born on February 4, 1947, to the late Louis and Lucille (Pendergast) Wouters.

Kay loved her family more than anything else. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved to spend time with them and especially enjoyed the more recent tradition for her family of serving Hot Tottie’s at Christmas. Sitting around the fire pit in her back yard with her family was always a highlight of the summer and even into the colder months. Most summer nights became “all-nighters” of storytelling, laughing and a few cocktails around the fire either at home or at the cabin. Pontoon boat rides with her sisters and their cocktail cruises or with her children and grandchildren just to share time were always a highlight.

She was a member of the “Red Hat Society.” This was a group that wore red hats, played sheepshead and practiced moderate gambling for modest winnings every Wednesday (or a big loss of $1.50!). Kay also enjoyed reading, watching tv -especially Criminal Minds and Shemar Moore- and watching her favorite soap opera. She loved to partake of treats. She enjoyed her favorite candy bars and German Chocolate Cake. Perhaps her joy in Halloween was a result of her love of sweets, but she really just loved to see the kids in the costumes and make a scene about them all.

Kay loved to cook and was always feeding her grandchildren when they came to visit or to assist with any tasks around her home. She was a natural hostess and always had a warm pot of coffee ready for anyone who might stop by. Kay’s “open door policy” was remarkable and well-known to her family and friends. Everyone was welcome in her home, enjoyed a good meal, a bed when needed and a listening ear.

Kay is survived by her daughter Toni (Rich Treleven) Oudenhoven, grandchildren: Trevor (Cheyenne), Richard Treleven; great grandchildren: Lydia, Zayden, Ryver, and Aiyana. She is further survived by her brother Carl Wouters; sister Jane Brogan, sisters and brothers-in-law: Diane Wouters, Nan Wouters, Mary Wouters, Alice Jansen, Pat (Greg) Van Zeeland, Butch Malsavage, Joanne (Jerry) Lamers, Gail (Terry) Jasmer, Jean (Dave) Coenen, godson Doug Janson, “bonus daughter” Sara and her daughter Molly and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roger, her son Billy Joe, daughter Wendy, her parents; parents-in-law: Tony and Fern Oudenhoven; siblings: Dan Wouters, Joe (Carol) Wouters, Jerry (Diane) Wouters, Allen Wouters; brothers and sisters-in-law: Gene Jansen, Mary Malsavage, Daniel Oudenhoven, Ed Brogan as well as other relatives and friends.

Kays family will celebrate her life privately around a fire in the coming months. IN lieu of flowers, please take time to share a bonfire with your family, roast some marshmallows and 3 Musketeers Bars and enjoy the company of the people you love.
