Age 65, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2011 in Greenville, Mississippi. Karen was born on December 27, 1945 in Appleton, daughter of the late Cyril “Cy” and Dorothy (Rippl) Burton. Karen was a graduate of Xavier High School in Appleton as well as the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh. There she earned her degree for teaching developmentally disabled students. Karen taught in the Appleton area for many years, and after relocating to Greenville Mississippi, she owned and operated Winterville County Store.

She is survived by her brothers and sisters: Jerry Burton of Appleton, Mary (Bob) Lamers of Kaukauna, Ellen (John Heydenreich) Burton of Culpeper, Virginia; and a sister-in-law: LuAnn Burton of Appleton. There are also many nieces and nephews, as well as her longtime companion: Mike Winters.

A private family service will be held in Appleton at a later date.
