Obituary

Judith Frances DeYoung, age 83, passed away at Silverstone Memory Care on April 28, 2026. Judy was born on December 20, 1942, in Appleton, WI to Clarence and Bernice (Goehler) Williams. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Appleton High School. Her husband of 62 years, Paul knew of Judy (and she of him) nearly his whole life. They lived a mere 8 blocks apart, attended Sacred Heart together and participated in many of the same church activities. Eventually, after many innocuous meetings, Judy and Paul fell in love and they married on February 6, 1964, and began their family.

Judy loved her children and enjoyed supporting their every activity. Judy had a few signature dishes that she often shared at church functions and with her family. She made a mean lasagna, could make a carrot cake that would win a prize, and her angel food candy was literally do die for. Judy was essential in getting the Sweet Stroll at Sacred Heart started and successfully continuing. As well, she was active in serving in so many varied capacities at the church and was integral in the appearance of the church from cleaning to decorating. Judy had a selfless and servant hearted nature that allowed her to put others before herself, and even sometimes before Paul.

When grandchildren arrived, Judy retired in order to provide care for them. She truly turned her focus to them and loved to cheer them on from the bleachers and sidelines. She seldom missed an event and was wildly supportive! She functioned as the record-keeper for those family events, taking photos and videos to save the experiences for posterity.

Judy loved to spend time outdoors in the spring and summer. She was a “perennial nut” and loved to plant colorful flowers in her garden beds. She also enjoyed sharing flower cuttings and her rhubarb with friends and family. Judy loved to share her backyard with the birds that would visit her feeders. Judy would bring leftover bread from restaurants to feed them and was even known to buy day old bread for them!

Judy is survived by her husband Paul, her children: Jenny DeYoung, Michael (Tammy) DeYoung; grandchildren: Matthew (McKenzie) and Nathan (Kelen); 2 sisters: Catherine Arndt and Susan Dupont, as well as many other relatives and wonderful friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers-in-law David Arndt and Joseph Dupont.

A Mass of Chirstian Burial will take place on Wednesday May 6, 2026, at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Catholic Parish, 222 E Fremont Street, Appleton. Friends and family may gather at the church from 9:00am until mass begins. Judy will be laid to rest at St Joseph Cemetery, Appleton.

Judy’s family would like to thank Silverstone Memory Care as well as Moment’s Hospice for their support and wonderful care.
