Joyce Manette Hanstedt, age 89, of Appleton, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the Appleton Medical Center. Joyce was born on May 28, 1924, daughter of the late Dale and Genevieve Coley. She was a proud 1942 graduate of Appleton High School and went on to St. Luke's Nursing School in Chicago. In 1950, Joyce married Len Hanstedt at the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Len and Joyce raised five wonderful children together.
Joyce enjoyed her career as a registered nurse spending many years at Appleton Memorial Hospital (Appleton Medical Center). She was also a faithful member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, a very active participant in the community as a dedicated volunteer and enthusiastic spectator, culminating in her and Len being named Fox Cities Volunteer of the Year.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 63 years, Len; her four children, Sue (Dave) Furstenberg of Waupaca, Barb (Shelly) Hanstedt of Wichita, Kansas, Bill (Pam) Hanstedt of Appleton, and Peggy (Garth) Schneider of Lake Geneva. She is further survived by her grandchildren; Erich Furstenberg, Meghan (Kyle) Furstenberg-Knauff, Alaina (Jeremy) Burt, Brady and Drew Hanstedt, Kathleen, Claire and Tom Schneider. She was blessed with a great granddaughter, Eloise Knauff. Joyce will also be missed by her sisters-in-law, Ruthie Coley and Lois Bressers, brother-in-law Al Hanstedt and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her son, Tom Hanstedt and her brother Bob Coley.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST (724 East South River Street, APPLETON) with Rev.
