Joyce A. Powers, of Greenville, age 73, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Appleton Medical Center. She was born on May 28, 1939 in Withee, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Alvin and Agnes (Madsen) Thorson. Joyce graduated from UW – Stevens Point and taught Home Economics at Shiocton High School for four years. On July 11, 1964, she married Norman Powers at St. Denis Catholic Church in Shiocton. Joyce was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Greenville for 48 years. She was very involved in Greenville Youth Sports and was a longtime member of the Greenville Homemakers. She owned Joyce Powers' Custom Draperies, taught classes at Fox Valley Technical College, and worked at Ark of Crafts. Joyce was very talented in crafting; including cross-stitching, needlework, knitting and crocheting to name a few. Her family meant the world to her! She enjoyed going to her children and grandchildren activities, and many know her as the “scorekeeper” at baseball games.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 48 years: Norm Powers; children: Jeanne (Mike) Lautenschlager; Ron (Sheila) Powers; Kathy (Bill) Diedrich; and Mike (Kimberly) Powers; eleven grandchildren: Katie, Joey and Emily Lautenschlager; Tyler, Sami and Tommy Powers; Jake, Abby and Luke Diedrich; Claire and Natalie Powers. She was preceded in death by her sister, June Thorson.
The funeral liturgy for Joyce will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, Hwy 76, Greenville. Fr. Dan Felton will be officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held on Saturday at the church from 9:00 am until 10:45 am. Mom, we love you and will miss you. We know you are finally free of pain. You will always and forever be a part of all of us. We will always cherish that special Saturday, when we could hear your voice and be comforted by your smile one last time. Thank you mom for being a blessing to us, and for all the memories that will last a lifetime!
