Joseph Wayne Daoust, age 81, passed away on September 10, 2026, at Lotus Garden Assisted Living in Appleton. He was born on November 16, 1944, to the late Lyman and Naomi (DeRosier) Daoust, in Ironwood, MI. Following high school, he earned an Associate of Arts in Photography from the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee. In 1966, Joe enlisted in the US Navy and served as a photographer while in Vietnam, on the USS Bonhomme Richard.

Upon returning to from his military service, Joe worked as a staff photographer for the Oshkosh Northwestern. In more recent years he worked as a photographic lab technician in various photo studios. He also served as a recruiter for the US Naval reserve.

Joe grew up with dogs during his childhood. He carried that love for dogs into his adulthood when he acquired his best friend Buddy, who was his partner in crime. His youth was also spent in the Daoust Pasty shop that was owned by his parents. Joe enjoyed talking about classic cars and sharing stories of his military service. He especially enjoyed the Beatles.

Joe had a keen eye for detail and enjoyed capturing images for advertising. As well, during his service, he was responsible for photographing the happenings aboard the ship. He liked to take photos of family and friends as the opportunity presented itself. He earned a number of awards from the Associated Press for his work at the Oshkosh Northwestern.

Joe is survived by his nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Mary Margaret (Robert) Dahlin, Daniel (Faith) Daoust and his truest friend Buddy.

A funeral liturgy is being planned and specific details will be updated when they become available.
