John Sprangers Jr, age 93 of Menasha, WI passed away on April 19, 2026. He was born to the late John Sr. and Hattie (Peters) Sprangers on March 30, 1933, in Green Bay, WI. Raised in Appleton, WI where he completed vocational school, John started his career at Central Paper in Menasha, WI until being called to proudly serve in the U.S Army in 1953. He was honorably discharged in 1955, ending his tour of duty. John returned home to Menasha and began his career as a color matcher at American Can retiring after 39 years. John married the love of his life, Amelia Sturn on October 13, 1956. They raised two sons and enjoyed over 63 years together.
John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and golfing with family and friends. To many he was a jack of all trades and a master of none but generously helped family and friends with any project. He especially liked refinishing furniture projects. John was a man of faith and as a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Menasha he spent many years volunteering, helping with building maintenance and singing in the choir. John’s second love in life was his dogs, having many canine companions throughout his life. But more importantly John loved his family and cherished every moment with them.
John will be deeply missed by his sons, Phillip (Kathy) and David (Jenny); his grandchildren, Jacob (Amber), Adam (Bree), Matthew, Noah, and Chloe; his great-grandchildren, Hailey, Madi, and William; his sister, Marion Oudenhoven; his special friend, JoAnn; as well as many extended relatives, and dear friends.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Amelia; his granddaughter, Sarah; his siblings, Lawrence, Frank (Sally), Adeline (Joe), Leo (Joann), Tony, Lester, and Rita (George); his brother-in-law, Jerome; and his sister-in-law, Frances (Donald).
A memorial visitation will be held from 9-11 AM on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 516 De Pere St, Menasha, WI 54952 with a mass to follow at 11 AM. John will be laid to rest alongside his wife at St. John Cemetery in Menasha, WI. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Saving Paws Animal Rescue, N3141 Meade St, Appleton, WI 54913 in honor of John’s love for animals.
John’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the supportive staff at Prairie Home Assisted Living for their loving care and Preceptor Hospice for their expertise, and compassion along with Stephanie for adopting Teddy, John’s loyal companion for the past 11 years.
