John Louis Green

John L. Green, 80, of Appleton passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. 

He was born on March 12, 1943 in Fennimore, Wisconsin, the son of John and Vesta (Schwab) Green. 

John was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1966.  John spent most of his professional career at Aid Association for Lutherans (Thrivent) retiring in 1999 as the Director of Telecommunications.  

He was united in marriage on August 3, 1968 to Joyce Doerfler at Saint Therese Catholic Church.  They were blessed with three children Ryan, Amy and Kevin.  This year John and Joyce celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary at their favorite local restaurant, Apollon.

As a Geography major at Oshkosh, one of the joys of his life was traveling with Joyce and seeing the world together.  Being of Irish descent, the trips to Ireland were his favorite.  When not traveling he loved deer hunting, fishing for trout, and working on his 1967 Chevrolet.  This was their wedding car and he still enjoyed driving it this summer.  

John is survived by his wife: Joyce; children: Ryan (Ellen), Amy (Brooks) Beckhorn, Kevin; brother: Ron (Linda); sisters-in-law: Judi (Fred) Voeltz and Debra (Don) Jones; grandchildren Elliot and Ian Beckhorn and Rachel (Matt) Schiltz; great grandchild: Delilah Schiltz; nieces and nephews: Mike (Vicky) Steinmetz, Joel Green, Stacey (Matt) Baughman, Julie (Dan) Grafmeier, Brittany (Ryan) Dempsey, and godson Bob Brennan.

Visitation for John will be held at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church (3009 N. Meade St., Appleton, WI 54911) on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church’s Little Free Food Pantry or NAMI Fox Valley; 211 E. Franklin Street, Appleton, WI.
