Joan Vandehy, 73, of Appleton, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2011at Peabody Manor.
Joan was born on March 22, 1937 to Harry and Agnes (Bauman) Rost in Kingsford, Michigan. On May 19, 1956 she married Robert “Bob” Vandehy at Faith Lutheran Church. Joan was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who always put her family first. Her family was her life and she enjoyed hunting and fishing with them. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and also enjoyed quilting and knitting. Joan was a strong Christian and very active in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she was a charter member, a Sunday school teacher, the nursery secretary, a frequent reader at church, a member of LWML, bell choir and she was on the building committee. Her support system was her prayer chain and her Wednesday Bible study group. She worked for 21 years at AAL and served on the board of education in Kaukauna for 12 years. She also enjoyed her daily phone calls to her family and in her earlier years riding motorcycles and snowmobiles. Joan will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Joan is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert Vandehy, Appleton, 3 children; Kelly (Kim) Vandehy, Kimberly, Tammy (Mike) Gritton, Kimberly, Jill (Tom)Derr, Sun Prairie, 6 grandchildren; Jeremy and Jessica Gritton, Amanda (Jon) Phillips, Ashley, Melissa and John Derr, 2 nephews; Perry (Julie) Weber, and Gene (Kathy) Weber and many friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Harris and Eugene Rost, and a sister Beverly (Bill) Weber.
A funeral service for Joan will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at GOOD SHEPHERD LUTHERAN CHURCH (2220 East College Ave.) at 12:00 PM with Pastor Martin E. Koeller and Pastor Timothy Seabaugh officiating. Interment will be in the Highland Memorial Park. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 AM until the time of services at the Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the hospice staff of Peabody Manor and a very special nurse, Sandy from 4th floor at Theda Clark. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
