Joan M Sokoloski, 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2026. She was born to Edward and Dorothy (Renn) Luniak on August 2, 1938, growing up on the family farm in Darboy, along with her five sisters. Joan went to the one room Star School in Menasha and then graduated from Menasha High School. Following high school, she worked at Banta Corp where she met her husband, Bud Sokoloski. After having her children, she pursued a career in banking working at Miller Electric Credit Union and then Community First Credit Union.
Mom spent time with family and friends at the cabin in Saxeville, and then later, another cabin outside Shawano where memorable moments were spent with family, and special memories shared with the grandchildren. She also spent countless hours enjoying our various sporting events, especially baseball, softball, and football. We all have wonderful childhood memories of camping trips, spending time at the beach, and having great family time together. She had a passion for golfing, accomplishing the rare feat of holing out in one stroke, and when not on the golf course, she loved watching it on television. Joan enjoyed traveling throughout the country and traveling abroad, reading, flower gardening, puzzles, and the Green Bay Packers – pity the person who interrupted her during a Packer game.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband Bud in 1998, and is survived by her three children, John (Susan) Sokoloski, Debra (Michael) Armitage, David Sokoloski. Three grandchildren, Eric (Jonalyn) Armitage, Emily (Cameron) Reiland, and Mallory Armitage. And six great grandchildren, Elias, Leona and Nolan Armitage, and Owen, Oletta, and Theodore Reiland. She is also survived by her sisters Betty, Arlene, Carol and Dottie, brother-in-law George (Carol), and sister-in-law Sue, and many other relatives and friends.
The family extends a special thank you to all the nurses and staff at Country Villa Assisted Living in Little Chute and Moments Hospice for the tremendous care they gave to mom.
A funeral service will take place on April 27, 2026, at 5PM with visitation from 3-5PM, at Wichmann Funeral Home (Laemmrich Funeral Chapel), 312 Milwaukee Street, Menasha, WI 54952. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Menasha.
