Joan D. “Jan” Petersen, age 81 of Kaukauna WI, passed away at St. Paul Home on Wednesday, February 26, 2014. Jan was born on October 11, 1932 in San Francisco, CA, to the late Malcolm and Laura (Drinkwater) Hippard. She married David W. Petersen on April 23, 1955, in East Orange, NJ.
Jan was a member of First United Methodist Church in Appleton, WI, where she was an enthusiastic member of Bible study and book discussion groups as part of her spiritual journey as a longtime member of the Church. She was also active in special studies at the Bridge Between, Denmark, WI.
Jan loved her family and the beauty of life around her. She was a well known and respected watercolor artist, where she expressed herself through her works; which included paintings of flowers, birds, landscapes and portraits. Jan was a member of the Art Critique Group and several open studio arts groups. Jan was also an avid reader, enjoyed worldwide travel, and music.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, David; her children, Laura G. Petersen, Grafton, WI; Christian W. (Lisa R.) Petersen, Beverly Hills, MI; John E. (Victoria S.) Petersen, Tampa, FL; and Julie A. (David G.) Hinkens, Appleton, WI; her grandchildren, Adam W. and Seth C. Petersen; Ryan A.W., Danielle M., and Myles E. Petersen; Drew A., and Darren D. Hinkens; her great grandchildren, Ayden and Gavin Petersen; and Ariyana Petersen. She is further survived by her brother, Richard Hippard, San Francisco, CA.
Memorial services will be a 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 10th, 2014, at FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 325 E. Franklin St., Appleton, WI, with Rev. Dr. E. Doyle Blanton officiating. Lunch will follow. Friends may call directly at the church on March 10th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff/volunteers at St. Paul Home, Kaukauna, WI for their loving care.
