Obituary

Jerome “Jerry” Harold Zoellner, age 82, passed away on January 28, 2026. He was born on May 10, 1943, in Fond do Lac, to Louis and Ada (Bowe) Zoellner. He grew up in rural Fond du Lac on a farm with three brothers. He learned the value of hard work on the farm, though he couldn’t wait to move away. On January 4, 1964, Jerry married Lois Gieschen at St James Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, and they shared the next 62 years together. The couple had 7 children who were each born in a different city as the family followed Jerry’s calling in education.

Throughout his life, Jerry helped build the faith foundation of many children through his teaching. In addition, he spent summers painting homes which turned into his vocation following his retirement. His reputation for excellent work preceded him. While painting he always took time to get to know his clients. He used his natural gift of gab to share stories and learn about the people he was serving. Jerry sometimes coached his own children during varied sports. It was a way for him to stay connected with them as they grew.

Jerry was a man who loved to work with his hands. He was a master woodworker who learned that craft from his younger brother Don who was/is a cabinet maker. He loved to work through new innovations and find ways to make it work. He also loved to be physically active-and he spent hours as an officiant for various sports. He also learned to hunt and was also a hunting safety instructor. Jerry loved to garden and the family often had an outsize garden at their homes.

Faith was very important to Jerry. He served in many capacities in the churches in which he served. He taught Sunday school, participated in choir for 50 years, served as a trustee and also on the building and grounds committee among others. He always found a church home in which to be active. From Weyauwega, Reedsville, Milwaukee, and finally Pigeon, MI Jerry taught between grades 5-8. He was focused on a faith-filled education and worked hard to provide that education for his children.

Jerry is survived by his wife Lois, his children: Rachel (Troy) Schulz, Rebecca (Dennis) Bowman, Mark (Amy) Zoellner, Paul (Michelle) Zoellner, Jonathan Zoellner, Ruth (Peter) Westendorf, Joel (Kirsten) Zoellner; 22 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his brother Don (Kathy) Zoellner and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers: Delbert (Sheila) Zoellner and Daniel (Marge) Zoellner.

At Jerry’s request there will be no public services.
