Jeanette Laverne Schaefer

Jeanette L. Schaefer passed away April 9, 2022 after a long life of 95 years.  She was the daughter of Dennis and Lillian Werner and the youngest of their five children.  She was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Parish in Appleton.  On November 12, 1945 she married George Schaefer Jr. and they shared 71 years together. Jeanette and George had many happy times together and were deeply committed to each other.

Family was Jeanette’s priority and she was especially attached to her five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  She looked forward to large family holidays.  She had many hobbies but sewing, knitting and puzzles kept her engaged with life until her last days.  She also enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening, boating, cross country skiing and golfing.  She cherished her yearly travels to Mississippi to golf and be with friends.   Jeanette and George spent many happy summers in Door County at their cottage entertaining family and friends.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, infant daughter Christi, and husband, George.  Jeanette is survived by her daughters, Connie (Joseph) Nock, Nancy (Edward) Lieg and Sharon (Dale) Lyons.  She is further survived by her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Kris (Diane) Lyons, Mason and Bryce; Erin (Matthew) Woodard, Elinor and Miriam; Mark (Emily) Lyons, Alexandria; Katie (Oliver) Pitts, Maxwell; Benjamin (Jamie) Nock, Jakob and Lillian.

The family would like to thank all of her special caregivers, especially, Soni and Liz of Compassus Hospice for their caring support, as well as the many visits from neighbors and friends.

To honor Mom’s wishes, friends are asked to join the family in a Celebration of Life Mass on Tuesday April 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (222 East Fremont Street Appleton WI 54915). Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 19, 2022 from 10:30 am until the hour of Mass at the church. 

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask you to make a donation in her name to St. Joseph’s Food Program or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
