Jean passed away peacefully during the early morning of Friday, August 7, 2026, after a long and truly special life.

Jean was born "Laura Jean" May 14,1929 in Mauston, WI to Orland S. and Florence (Ely) Loomis. She graduated with a BA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1951 and was a lifelong Badger fan. On June 21,1952 she married James (Jim) G. Ormson (of New Lisbon, WI). They then moved to Richland Center, WI where she taught kindergarten.

Jean and her family moved to Appleton in 1958, where she lived for the rest of her life. During this time, she was active at Faith Lutheran Church and volunteered and served as president in these community organizations: Appleton Medical Center Auxiliary, Chapter AT of PEO, Infant Welfare Circle of the King’s Daughters, and the Fortnightly Book Club. She taught pre-school at the Good Shepherd Preschool (1977-1985), was a Sunday school teacher, Cub Scout, Brownie, and Girl Scout leader, and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Jean always persevered with grace and a genuine calling to bring good cheer and happiness to those around her, but she knew heartache and sorrow, too. As a young teenager, she lost her father at the apex of his career. She lost a son much too early and was the primary caregiver to her beloved husband in his last years. Through it all, her faith, family and friends always propelled her forward and her light shined brightly.

Jean's love of travel was instilled in her from an early age by her parents. She was able to enjoy many trips with her husband until his health curtailed it.

Jim and Jean became residents at Touchmark in 2003, making Jean the longest tenured resident of Touchmark. She was past president of its Resident Executive Council and a long-standing advocate for improving the resident experience in all facets of the community. Over the years, Jean enjoyed working with the professional and committed staff at Touchmark in their endeavors to make it a great place to live. She was truly appreciative of the staff's caring attitudes, friendships, and service not only shown to her, but toward all of the residents.

Jean was an avid reader, musician and pianist. At Touchmark, she founded and developed, over many years, a comprehensive library which continues to be enjoyed by residents and guests today. Jean created and produced eight musical programs at Touchmark, and directed the Troubadours, a resident singing group. At age 90, she and two other residents formed a nonagenarian trio, aptly named Jean and the Pacemakers. For seven years, they performed weekly Saturday morning concerts in the lobby, often playing from a large stack of music, sight-reading many pieces with great merriment. Her last solo “concert” was in July.

In her 80’s, Jean learned to paint and created a plethora of wonderful acrylic paintings. She again began traveling extensively on trips near and far throughout the remainder of her life.

Jean brought joy, friendship, kindness, comfort, compassion and guidance to the many people she came to know. She lived life to the fullest, and many have been blessed by knowing her. Jean was strong in faith and is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Jean is survived by two sons, Mark Ormson (Cynthia), Granger, IN, Eric Ormson (Katherine), Cocoa Beach, FL, and one daughter, Nancy Hitz (Jeff), Fairplay, CO; eight grandchildren: Kristen Everson (Scott), Dumfries, VA, Laura Hoag (Michael) Liberty Hill, TX, Anne Marie Ohman (Tomislav), Nuremberg, Germany, John Ormson (Rachel), Kirkland, WA, Madison Ormson, San Jose, CA, Chris Ormson, Chicago, IL, Finn and Kai Youngsteadt, Chicago, IL; and seven great-grandchildren: Alex, Cadence and Nicholas Everson, Harrison and Hayden Hoag, Marko Ohman, and James Ormson.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, James Gabriel Ormson, in 2011, her first son, James Loomis Ormson, in 1985, and her brothers, Robert, in 2014, and John, in 2020.

A celebration-of-life memorial service will be held at Touchmark, 2601 Touchmark Drive, Appleton, WI on Sunday, October 4, 2026 at 1:00pm.
