Jean Marie Gurlik, age 75, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the Appleton Medical Center, following a brief illness. Jean was born in Door County on February 9, 1934, daughter of the late Henry and Helen (Wielebski) Klingbile. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee with a degree in elementary education, and taught in various school districts around the state, returning to the Fox Valley in 1969. At that time she began work as a nurses' aide at Vallhaven Care Center in Neenah. She was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, and was also a longtime member of the Fox Valley Miniature Club.
Jean is survived by three children: Philip Gurlik of Annapolis, Maryland; Julie Lorenz of Columbia, South Carolina; and Greg (Cheryl) Gurlik of Hartland; a daughter-in-law: Janet Gurlik of Appleton; five grandchildren: Robbie, Dylan, Travis, Angela, and Andrea Gurlik; a great-granddaughter: Rose Kappell; a sister: Judy (Gary) Liese of Sonoma, California; a nephew: Noel Liese of Glen Ellen, California; and is also survived by her father Henry's wife, Dorothy Klingbile of Appleton. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, a younger brother Buddy, and her son Ray Gurlik.
A private family gathering to honor Jean's memory has already taken place.
