January 6, 1932 — November 13, 2023

Menasha

JEAN KRIEG SAWALL HASKINS, 91, of Menasha, passed away on November 13 from injuries sustained in a fall at her home.  Just short of her 92nd birthday, Jean was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor and friend.  Jean and her twin sister Joanne were born in their family home in Neenah on January 6, 1932 to James and Frances (Hooyman) Krieg.  Jean attended Spring Road School in Neenah, graduating from Neenah’s Shatuck High School in 1949.

Jean married William H. Sawall of Menasha in April 1951.  Jean and Bill built their home in the Village of Fox Crossing in 1962 where Jean lived until the time of her death.  Bill passed away in 1968 and Jean is survived by their four children: Dan; Cynthia (John) Gaffney, Pound WI; Andrew (Pamela;) and Pamela (Mark) Holewinski.  In 1971 Jean married Leland D. Haskins of Green Bay.  Jean and Lee were married 46 years until his death in 2017; Jeans is further survived by her Bonus-daughters: Lora Haskins, Oshkosh; Loretta Ferg, Stevens Point; Linda Turner, Vancouver WA; and Lynne Ackerman, Tacoma WA.  Jean and Lee enjoyed traveling and trip destinations included Ireland, Switzerland/France and over twenty trips to the Hawaiian Islands.

Jean was a work at home mom until 1965 when she joined Riverside Clinic/Nicolet Clinic eventually elevating to Director of the Insurance Department.  She retired in 1998 after over 30 Years.  Then she focused on the joys of being a grandmother providing after school and vacation coverage for five grandchildren that also survive her:  Eric (Michelle) Kwiatkowski; Sadie (Nick) Rupnick; Drew (C-Lo) Sawall; Carley (Erik) Voss and Hailey (Billy) Schommer.  A favorite family recall is the image of Jean driving her big black four door sedan with numerous kids piled in who may or may not have been appropriately belted in.  Jean’s life was further enhanced by the birth of her first Great-grandaughter Paisley Holewinski, followed by Blair Voss, Sully Rupnick and Skyler Schommer.  Philanthropically, Jean was also a weekly volunteer at the Fox Valley Community Clothes Closet for over twenty years.
In latter years, Jean developed a love for game shows watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.  Most nights she watched these shows with another new passion, her grand-puppy Parker.

Jean is further survived by her sister Judy Keesler; brother William (Donna) Krieg; sisters-in-law Irene Krieg and Patricia Sewall, nieces and nephews.  Also surviving are the Haskins grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jean was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters Joanne (Fred) Kohl and Elaine (Louis) Blair; brother Robert Krieg; and son Leland David Haskins Jr.

Jean’s children are hosting a celebration of her life, Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Wichmann Laemmerich Funeral Home, 312 Milwaukee Street, Menasha.  Jean will be interred at a later date at St. John’s Cemetery, also in Menasha.
