Jay Hagman, age 65, of Appleton, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 3, 2014. Jay was born on April 17, 1948, in Appleton, to the late Wallace and Beatrice (Otto) Hagman. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Jay was a 1966 graduate from Xavier High School, he went on to pursue an Education degree from UW-Oshkosh. Jay taught at Holy Spirit in Darboy and St. Al's in Kaukauna, before becoming the first full time Pool and Recreation Director in New London. He owned and operated Weasel's Restaurant in Waupaca for many years, was employed at Fed Ex for fifteen years, was a substitute teacher for the Appleton School System, and was an accomplished author. Jay enjoyed fishing, reading, playing softball, golfing, traveling, writing children's books and novels. “Pepa” as he was known to his grandchildren, especially enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends. Jay was also a proud member of the Appleton Yacht Club.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Theresa “Terri”; his son, Josh (Lauren) Hagman, Appleton; his granddaughter, Audrey; twin grandsons, Brady and William; his brother, Jeff (Diana) Hagman, Appleton; his brothers-in-law, Dennis Kraft, Dan (Connie) Kraft, Jim (Kris) Kraft, Russ (Tami) Kraft, Paul (Amy) Kraft; and his sister-in-law, Nancy (Tim) Wasso. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and his dog Sadie Magoo. Jay was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Kathy Probst and his special uncle, Bill Otto.
The Funeral Liturgy will be at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at ST. MARY CATHOLICH CHURCH, 312 South State Street, Appleton, with Fr. Luke Strand and Fr. Jacob Strand officiating.
