Janis Y. Anderson, age 88, of Appleton passed away surrounded by her loving family, early on July 2, 2012 at Appleton Medical Center. Janis was born on May 30, 1924 in Two Rivers, WI, the second child of Joseph and Ada Stehlik. She graduated from Washington High School, Two Rivers and then pursued a career in nursing, receiving her degree from St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Her nursing career began at Milwaukee County Medical Center where she met her husband, Jack G. Anderson.
She was united in holy matrimony to Jack on June 16, 1951 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, WI. The couple moved to Minnesota where she continued her nursing career as a surgical charge nurse at University Hospitals in Minneapolis, MN. Shortly thereafter they moved to Appleton, WI where they raised three children. She was a dedicated and faithful member of First United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed years of fellowship and Sunday school teaching. She was later employed as an assistant to the assessor at the town of Grand Chute with long time friend Shirley Stevens. This job was very fulfilling and satisfying for her.
Jan was a member of Appleton Medical Auxiliary and King's Daughters Circle. Other interests included playing tennis, taking jazzercise class and volunteering for her children's extracurricular activities. She was a long time member of her bridge and luncheon clubs, and the relationships she established with these women were very important to her.
Jan was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She took great pride and joy in her family and raising her children. It brought her much happiness to watch her children and grandchildren in their school and athletic activities. Her family will always remember her for her devotion to them, as well as her grace, strength and character.
Janis is survived by her husband Dr. Jack Anderson of 61 years; three children, Dr. Jack (Kathy) Anderson of Appleton, Kristin (John Jr.) Mielke of Appleton, and Sara (Daniel) Darmstadter of Sun Prairie; eight grandchildren, Paul, Mark, John, and Erik Anderson, Sarah and Johnny Mielke, Claire and Ellen Darmstadter. She is further survived by one sister-in-law Audrey Stehlik, many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Stehlik.
