Janice “Jan” Mossholder, age 76, passed away at her home in Appleton on December 30, 2023. Jan was born on August 5, 1947, in Wayne, Nebraska, daughter to Clifford and Doris (Frerichs) Jewell. She was a 1965 graduate of Appleton West High School. It was there that she met her future husband, David Mossholder. They were wed at Zion Lutheran Church on August 27, 1966, and raised two beautiful children together. Dave preceded her in death in 2019.
Education was important to Jan because, “You’re never too old to learn”. Jan returned to school, learning to prepare taxes. This allowed her to own Small Business Services, helping many with tax returns. One of Jan’s proudest accomplishments was owning MC Properties which developed the subdivision Marshall Heights, after earning her real estate license.
After retirement, Jan and Dave built their dream home on Lost Lake in Crandon, Wisconsin. They enjoyed watching wildlife from their porch and driving their Jeep through the woods. Jan also enjoyed puzzles, word searches, crossword puzzles and especially music.
Jan was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church and when her children were in middle and high schools, Jan was active member on the church council, with her passion being the Youth Group and the Youth committee’s representative in church matters. Jan supported the church in any way she could throughout the years. Listening to the organ and handbells during Sunday services brought her so much joy.
Jan is survived by her children: Dennis Mossholder, Middleton and Tammy Mossholder, Appleton; siblings: Lynette (Dave) Bus, Bob (Kathy) Jewell, and Wayne (Michelle) Jewell; sisters-in-law: Deloris Kramer and Nancy (Howard) Mills; she is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and longtime friends: Bob and Esther Schmidt as well as Sandy Evilsizor.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Clifford and Doris Jewell; brother: Thomas Jewell; nephew: Steve Schmidt; parents-in-law: Marshall and Clarice Mossholder; brothers-in-law, Keith Mossholder and David Kramer; and good friends: Barb Lillge and Kenny Evilsizor.
The funeral service for Jan will be held at 5:00 PM on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Wichmann Funeral Home (537 N. Superior St., Appleton) with Rev. Mike Dismer officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church in Jan’s name.
