Janice H Clark, age 88, went peacefully in her sleep on the morning of October 9, 2024, at the Appleton Retirement Community.
Janice often commented how fitting it was that she would live out her final days on Packard Street, as she had fond childhood memories of growing up on that street, as the oldest daughter with five siblings.
She graduated from Edgewood College in Madison, WI and then went on to teach in Baltimore, MD and Chicago, IL. While in Chicago she met her future husband, Emmett Clark. They were married July 27, 1974, at St. Mary’s Church in Appleton. The couple returned to live in Appleton shortly after marriage. She continued teaching in the Catholic School system. She finished her career at Faith Childcare, her time there caring for babies was the happiest years of her working career, she loved those babies.
Janice and Emmett were not blessed with children, so her 21 nieces and nephews, and their families, were just that much more important to her.
Janice is preceded in death by her husband Emmett Clark, her parents Raymond and Genevieve (Mangan) Kappell, younger sister Marlene (Lionel) Brooks, brother John Kappell, nephew Thomas Dix, and brother-in-law Lionel (Porky) Brooks and Ronald Dix, as well as great-nephew Jeremy Reinders and great-great-nephew Quinn Gorges.
Janice will be missed by her surviving sisters Shirley Dix, Bonnie (LeRoy) Gorges, and Geraldine (Alcide) Demers, sister-in-law Marge Kappell, as well as many nieces and nephews, and friends.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at St Mary’s Church in Appleton, with Fr. Bill Swichtenberg presiding. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 am, with Mass to follow. Burial will be at 2:00 pm at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Appleton Retirement Community, her home for the last 2 years, for being so kind and loving to her. Also, special thanks to Jim Mischler for always being there for her.
She will be missed.
