Age 77, passed away in Mission, TX on Monday, March 22, 2010. She was born in the Town of Little Wolf on April 25, 1932, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Frieda (Ploetz) Rohde. Janet was baptized in Christ on May 11, 1932, and confirmed Lutheran on June 17, 1945. She graduated from Manawa High School, class of 1950. On October 31, 1953, she married her husband of 56 years, Erwin Dorow, Jr. Janet was very active at St. Matthew's as a member of the Dorcas Society and the Lutheran Women's Mission Society. Janet and Erwin enjoyed being “Winter Texans.” They loved traveling, dancing to a wide variety of music, gardening, and spending time with their family, friends, and especially their grandchildren. Janet was always on the hunt for a good recipe.
Janet is survived by her husband, Erwin; son, Kurt (Kay) Dorow of Kaukauna; daughter, Patricia Voss of Almond; grandchildren: Lucas and Logan Dorow, and Tammy, Baylee, and Blake Voss; brothers and sisters-in-law: Ralph (Elaine) Dorow, Caroline (Dennis) Laabs, Violet (Dorman) Litton, Velma (Dale) Stofferahn, and Leroy (Sally) Dorow; sister-in-law, Edith Dorow; and further survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Frieda; Erwin's parents, Erwin Sr. and Caroline (Schneider) Dorow; and a brother-in-law, Lawrence Dorow.
The funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at ST. MATTHEW LUTHERAN CHURCH, 129 S. Mason St., Appleton, with Rev. Paul Schuler officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday, March 27, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and at the church on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. The burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 29, in Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
The family extends a special thank you to the nurses and doctors in the I.C.U. at Mission Regional Medical Center in McAllen, TX for their wonderful care and support of Janet and her family.
A memorial fund in Janet's name is being established.
Janet's new address is “Heaven.” She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
