Janet Helen Fiedler

July 6, 1932 — May 13, 2026

Appleton

Janet Helen Fiedler (Verhagen), age 93 of Appleton WI, a woman of deep faith and devotion to her family, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026 to return home to the Lord, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. Born to Frank and Helen (Wilson) Verhagen on July 6, 1932, Janet grew up in a large, close-knit family and remained a vital part of the lives of her many siblings and their families.

Janet was the beloved wife of the late James Fiedler, with whom she built a life centered on mutual support and Christian family values. She was a very elegant woman with a quiet dignity and strong will. Janet was known for her nurturing spirit and her active role in the church and the lives of her children and grandchildren. Janet had many hobbies, including quilting, crocheting, reading, bowling, playing cards, camping, traveling, and solving crossword puzzles and word searches. She stayed in shape by swimming and, one time, even skydiving. Janet was very active in many organizations, including the Red Hatters and EAA, but enjoyed singing as a soprano for the church choir the most. More than anything, though, Janet loved her family and cherished every moment she could spend with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

Janet will be deeply missed by her loving family members: her sister, Ginger Van Dyn Hoven; her children, Linda (Michael) Allen, Laura (Frank) Paterson, Ann (Jeff) Dart, Jayme (Greg) Hatfield, and Jim (Valerie) Fiedler; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild on the way; along with a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Janet is preceded in death by her husband, James Fiedler; her parents; 1 grandchild; 1 great-grandchild; and her siblings, Richard Verhagen, Frank Jr. Verhagen, Nancy Vander Zanden, and Sharon Spang.

A memorial visitation will be held for Janet from 10-11 AM on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Valley Baptist Church, 3600 Chippewa St, Appleton, WI 54911 with a livestreamed memorial service to follow at 11 AM. The livestream can be viewed below. Janet will be laid to rest with her husband at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton, WI following the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for the various charities and organizations Janet was passionate about.

Janet’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful nurses, doctors, and other supporting staff at Ballard Glenn, Moments Hospice, and St. Croix Hospice for the care, compassion, and expertise shown to Janet during her times of need.
