Age 88, passed away at Kilkenny Cottage Assisted Living in Neenah on Sunday, October 9, 2011. She was born in Preble on March 12, 1923. Jan was a waitress for many years at many local restaurants and especially enjoyed working at St. Pat's Bookstore. She enjoyed knitting, baking, her many jigsaw puzzles, and watching old movies. Jan was a “good cook” and enjoyed holiday baking and making homemade chocolate candy. She will be remembered for the love she had for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jan is survived by her children: Paul (Sharon) Harwood of Appleton, Ann Nienhaus of Appleton, Barbara (Chuck) Fulcer of Menasha and Elizabeth Wolf of Brown Deer; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters: Marge, Katie, Alice, Esther and Maryann; and brother, Anthony. She is preceded in death by her former husband, Carson Van Harwood; and brothers: Robert and Henry.

The funeral liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1617 W. Pine St., Appleton, with Fr. Dennis Ryan officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Community Lutheran Cemetery, Freedom.
