Obituary

Jan “Stack” Stachowicz went home to our Lord and Savior peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

Jan was born May 8, 1939, in Menasha to the late Andrew and Frances (Hawley) Stachowicz. He attended St. Patrick’s grade school in Menasha and graduated from Menasha High School in 1957. After high school, he worked as an offset printer for George Banta Corporation in Menasha until his position was terminated. He also worked with his father Andrew at Stachowicz Construction Company.

That is when it all began… if you know, you know. Stack’s Bar was born!

He hosted his famous “Stack’s Sluggers” baseball team, amazing dart teams and leagues (which he was also a part of), sand volleyball, and, of course, the shake of the day, the food, and that wonderful jukebox. If you were lucky enough, you may still have a “Stolen from Stack’s ashtray”! There are so many memories from Stacks Bar and many more stories to tell. Especially about the 1978 Stack meets car accident, when a driver ran him over on N. Commercial st. which broke both legs, head injury, internal injuries and many other broken bones, he was in serious condition, But Stack was not a person to keep down, he recovered just fine.

In his off time, everyone knows Stack was a huge Raiders fan, along with being a big Nascar fan. Stack loved planting flowers of all sorts, playing cards and Cribbage. Him and his friend, Mike, started a cooling/heating/refrigeration business from which many benefited. He also loved cruising around in his baby blue Bonneville drop-top car, but good luck getting a picture of him.

Stack was an amazing person to know and a protector of many. He would help anyone he could, whenever he could. He was a big guy with a heart of gold and a favorite to many. One of his favorite joys in life was holiday dinners at his niece’s house, where a homemade lemon meringue pie was always waiting for him.

He is preceded in death by his Parents Andrew and Frances Stachowicz, son Andrew Stachowicz, sister Leah Garvey, Brother Alan Stachowicz, Nephew Dean Garvey.

Jan is survived by his brothers, Evan (Ann) Stachowicz and Neal (Marybeth) Stachowicz; niece, Cheri Becker; nephew, Mike (Cindy) Garvey, Christopher Stachowicz, Kevin Stachowicz; great-nephews, A.J. Garvey, Jan (Tabi) Becker, Loki Becker, Michael (Sarah) Garvey, and Nick (Brittney) Garvey; great-nieces, Elliott Becker, Lainey Becker, and Becky (Al) Nicols; and many great-great-nephews and nieces.

The family would like to graciously thank the staff at Care Partners of Kaukauna for all their time, talents, and love for Stack, along with Cherry Meadows in Menasha for their care and kindness.

There will be a funeral memorial on March 21, 2026, at St. Gabirel Catholic Church - 900 Geiger St. Neenah WI 54956. The visitation will be from 9am to 11am and the service will start at 11.
