James H. Manning, 69, of Appleton passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at Theda Clark Hospital. James was born on August 13, 1940 to John and Doris (Saunders) Manning in Houghton, Michigan. He graduated from Michigan Tech with a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1962 and a Master's and a PhD from the Institute of Paper Chemistry in 1967. He started his career as a Chemical Engineer with International Paper Company in Mobile, Alabama. During his career he worked for various paper companies retiring from James River Corporation as a Senior Research Scientist in 1995. Jim had received over 30 patents for his inventions during his career. On July 2, 1966 he was united in marriage with Gladys “Dolly” Anderson and they enjoyed 43 years of marriage and they had 4 daughters together. Jim was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and family. Jim put up a courageous fight with Parkinson's Disease for over 30 years. He will be greatly missed by his wife Dolly and his daughters; Becky (Scott) Rude, Joanna Brooks, Katrina (Chad) Riddle and his grandchildren; Ivy, McKinleigh, and Ricky Rude, Payton Johnson, Ellis and Amyah Brooks and Ellie and Charlotte Riddle. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Doris Manning, his sister Janet Manning and his daughter and grandson Heidi and Alex Johnson.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 25, 2010 at 4:00 PM at Memorial Presbyterian Church (803 E. College Ave.) with Pastor Daryl Baker officiating. The family would like to thank the staff for the exceptional skilled, compassionate, and loving care that Jim received at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center. In Lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the National Parkinson's Research Foundation.
