James “Jim” Vernon Duhm, age 76 of Appleton, WI joined his heavenly kingdom on September 1, 2026. The oldest of 4 children, he was born to Vernon and Alice (Krause) Duhm on February 16, 1950 in Green Bay, WI. From early elementary school, Jim was determined to have special needs and went to Northern Colony (AKA Northern Wisconsin Center for the Developmentally Disabled) in Chippewa Falls, WI for his education past the 1st grade. When he became an adult, he moved into the Agape 9 home in Appleton and worked many years for Goodwill before working for Valley Packaging Supply Co.

In his adult life, Jim was a gentle soul who loved animals. In fact, he was called the “deer whisperer” in recognition of when he would go to the deer park and the deer would always follow Jim around. He enjoyed all sorts of music and spent much of his free time watching football. You could often find Jim around town on one of his walks, enjoying nature and loving life. More than anything, though, Jim loved his family and cherished family get-togethers and frequent visits from his sisters, parents, and nieces and nephews.

Jim will be deeply missed by his sisters, Karen (Ken) and Cheryl; his brother-in-law, Ruben; his nieces and nephews, Carmen (Chuck), Cara (Mike), Heather (Jeff), Troy (Carly), Bryce (Amy), and Brianna (Austin); his aunts, Ethel and Joyce; his uncle, Jim; as well as many grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, other extended relatives, and dear friends through Agape and work.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Alice; his sister, Karla; his twin niece and nephew, Aaron Scott and Carrie Marie; his aunts, Geneva (Jack), Victoria (Wilmer), Dolores, Ardis, Ethel, and Joyce; and his uncles, Roy, Carl, and Jim.

A funeral visitation will be held for Jim from 9-11 AM on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St, Appleton, WI 54911 with a funeral service to follow at 11 AM. Jim will be laid to rest with his parents at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton, WI on a separate day. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for the organizations who helped Jim through his life.

Jim’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful nurses and other supporting staff at Agape 9 for their exceptional care and compassion shown to Jim throughout the years.
