Ione Joan (Kahler Immel) Berg, age 87, went to her Heavenly home on Saturday, May 25, 2024.
Ione was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Lena Kahler; first husband, Duane Immel; infant grandson, Samuel Immel; brothers, Floyd Kahler, Orlin Kahler, Donny Kahler, Kenny Kahler; sister, Carol Kahler; and numerous other family.
She is survived by her second husband Vincent Berg; children Daniel Immel (Anzo Kubisiak) Immel, Ila (Ken) Kiesgen, Jane (Chuck) Chariton, Susan Immel (Flagstaff, Arizona), David (Julie Abboud) Immel, Del (Christine) Immel, and Martin (Haley) Berg; 12 grandchildren, Jesse (Rachel) Chariton, Crystal (Tony) Abitz, Kyle (Liz) Kiesgen, Elise Kiesgen, Corey Kiesgen, Conifer (Ruth) Berg, Jack (Alicia) Berg, Molly Berg, Lucy Berg, Joe Immel, Emily Immel, and Evan Immel; and 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Violet (Delmar) Sawall; sisters-in-law, Grace Kahler, Jean Kahler, Loretta (Gerald) Schultz, Joan Jantz, Anna (Richard) Hayes, and Florence Walker; and many, many nieces, nephews, and other family.
Ione was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran, Town of Center, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. She grew up on the farm on Hwy S. with her 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
She attended Sunny Hill School, Town of Center, and Graduated from Shiocton High School. She moved to Milwaukee and worked at Briggs & Stratton. Returning to the Appleton area, she worked at the Atlas Mill.
She married Duane Immel on October, 25, 1958. Together they bought the farm and castle-looking house on North Casaloma Drive in Grand Chute. They had the farm, many horses, an excavation business (for which she managed all the book work) and also had the first 6 children together. Tragically, Duane died, leaving all that, and the youngest was only 2 months old. She made it through and kept us all together. She had a lot of help from family, especially her younger sister, Violet and niece Shirley (Immel) Popp.
She married Vincent Berg on October 5, 1973, and they were blessed with a son Martin Berg on the 4th of July 1974.
Being a strong Christian, she somehow managed to have all 7 of her children attend Christian schools; St. Matthew and Fox Valley Lutheran.
She loved her children and always encouraged them in many ways, especially sports and music. She was a baseball score-keeper, avid football fan, and chaperone for High School marching band The Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin.
Other activities were Square dancing with Vincent, Watkins distributer, bowling league at the 41 Bowl, Grand Chute Lion’s Club, Ladies Aid at Trinity Lutheran Church, gardening - a huge vegetable garden, and of course her flowers.
She was an “Avon lady” for 42 years and earned many President’s Club awards.
She worked in the kitchen at Fox Valley Technical College, and even had the Ione’s Dining Room named after her.
Her perseverance showed, and she was a strong Christian. She loved her family and they will miss her, but are comforted knowing that she is in Heaven with Jesus.
