Herbert "Bert" Snyder passed away on September 2, 2026. Bert was born in Steubenville, Ohio, to Pauline and Ed Snyder. Following graduation from high school, he attended Bowling Green State University and graduated with a degree in secondary education. During his college years he developed a lifelong interest in history and political science. His career spanned teaching positions in Ohio, Illinois, New York, California, and Nevada.

Affectionately known as Snydog to his students, he thoroughly enjoyed teaching AP history. Bert had a big, soft heart for rescue dogs and was a most amazing dog dad to a number of pets rescued from miserable environments. Bert would often say he rescued dogs, but in reality, the dogs actually rescued him. When Bert retired from teaching in Las Vegas, he decided to move back to the Midwest and enjoy four seasons rather that one. Bert’s friends described him as compassionate, dedicated to education, and a lover of a good laugh, especially over a cocktail.

Bert is survived by his sister, Roberta Sherry of Holley, New York; and many good friends in the Appleton area.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Larry.

Many heartfelt thanks to the kind and caring staffs at ThedaCare hospital, Rennes Health and Rehab Center, and Silverstone Memory Care.

A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Bert had requested any memorials be sent to Tracy’s Paws using the link below.
