Helen C. Goedjen, age 94, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Appleton Retirement Community. She was born on July 25, 1914 in Oconto, WI; daughter of the late Philip and Lenore (Bauers) Barman. After graduating from high school at age 16, she moved to Two Rivers, WI with her family. On September 2, 1940, she was married to Alvin Goedjen. She and her husband owned and operated Al's Market in Two Rivers until retiring in 1981. Alvin preceded her in death in 1983. Helen enjoyed bowling, golfing and was a Packer fan. She was a member of the Ladies of Holy Redeemer, Damien Guild, Senior Citizens and the Homemakers Club. She sang in the New Hope choir as well as the Senior Center Chorus. Helen also liked to cook, sew and knit. She moved to Appleton in 2001. She was a hospital volunteer where she enjoyed knitting caps for newborns and also knitted prayer shawls. Helen is survived by her son-in-law, James (Barb) Larson, Appleton; her grandson, Jay (Jeanette) Larson, Houston, TX and their children, Joel, Joanna and Jacob; her grandson, David Larson, Chicago and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alvin, a daughter, Janice Larson, an infant son, a brother, Charles Barman and a sister, Ann Spaeth. A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen will be held on Monday, June 15, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1617 W. Pine St., Appleton with Fr. Dennis Ryan officiating. Family and friends may visit on Sunday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Wichmann Funeral Home, Appleton and again on Monday at the church from 12:30 until the time of the mass. A prayer service will be held Sunday at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. Entombment will take place in Knollwood Memorial Park, Manitowoc. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Assoc. or the St. Bernard Catholic Church.
