“Hap”

The Lord called and Hap answered unexpectedly at Theda Clark in Neenah on Thursday, September 03, 2009. He was born in Port Washington on February 22, 1929, the son of the late Edwin and Elsie Lorge. On May 4, 1956 he married Ruth Wilke. They were together for 47 years. She preceded him in death on May 16, 2003. Hap proudly served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for close to 50 years. Hap and Ruth traveled Wisconsin while working in construction for several years. They finally settled in Appleton and managed the Country Estates Mobile Home Park. Hap worked as the Superintendent of Parks in the Town of Menasha for 21 years, retiring in 1991. Upon his retirement, Hap enjoyed his family, hunting and fishing, making venison sausage, gardening, and making “Hap Sap,” the best maple syrup on earth!
Hap is survived by his children: David (Diane) Lorge of Greenville, Susan (David) Erdmann of Appleton and Mark (Patti) Lorge of Menasha; grandchildren: Joshua (Katie) Lorge, Scott (Denise) Lorge, Kristin (Mark) Erdman and Kevin Lorge; Michele and Nicholas Erdmann; Paul (Sara Friedel) Van Wychen, Mallory and Elizabeth Lorge; great-grandchildren: Brianna Van Wychen and Emma Friedel; sister: Elvira Jetzer; sisters-in-law: Marian Lorge, Davida Wilke and Doris Haupt. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Marie; brother, Roman Lorge; sister: Mabel Nelson; and brothers-in-law: Dan Dayton, Richard Wilke, Arthur Jetzer, Kenneth Nelson and James Haupt.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 E. Glendale Ave., Appleton, with Rev. Daniel Thews officiating. Family and friends will be received at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A military honor service will be conducted following the service. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the caregivers at Fox River Assisted Living and Century Oaks for their wonderful care of Hap.
