Harold J. Knoll, age 87, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on January 2, 1926, in Princeton, Wisconsin to the late Martha (Roguske) and Albert Knoll, and he graduated from Ripon High School in 1944. On January 23, 1954, he married Doris Fischer Rogers, and they shared 56 years of marriage until Doris' death in October of 2010.
Harold proudly served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed at Clark Field, Philippines. After he was discharged, Harold was employed as a shipping clerk at Tuttle Press for 40 years until his retirement.
He is survived and will be dearly missed by his daughters, Susan Lamers, Carol Knoll, and Christine (Dennis) Koci, all of Appleton; step-sons, Michael Rogers of Appleton and Timothy (Ann) Rogers of Gresham, Wisconsin. Harold is further survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer (William) Van Dyke, Jonathan (Andi) Lamers, Tara Koci, and Courtney Koci; sister, Delores Knoll of Kimberly; and brothers-in-law, Leonard Kutz of Appleton and Forrest Fischer of Sheridan, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn Van Dyke and Harrison Lamers; and step-great-grandchildren, Amanda Elston, Shelby Kallies, and Alexia Kallies.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris Knoll; parents-in-law, Elizabeth (Peters) and Charles Fischer; sisters, Irene Knoll, Virginia Knoll, Margaret Knoll, and Jeanette Kutz; sisters-in-law, Arlene Enger and Eileen Fischer; step-grandchildren, Tina (Rogers) Ashenbrenner and Holly (Rogers) Kallies; and step-great-grandson, Anthony Elston.
Harold was 87 years young until ill health struck in January of this year. However, two years of missing the love of his life may have been more the reason for his leaving us than the cancer with which he was diagnosed.
A funeral service for Harold will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 N. Superior Street, Appleton, with Rev. Mary Bauer officiating. A time of visitation will be held at the Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service.
The family would like to express endless gratitude to Affinity Hospice, Brightstar Home Care, and countless friends and neighbors who provided much care, support, and comfort to our family over the past four months.
