Grace Elaine Rohde

Grace Elaine (Peeters) Rohde, age 84, passed away May 24, 2023, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton.  Grace was born on April 23, 1939, in Winona, MN to Chester and Amanda (Roth) Peeters. She grew up in the Fox Valley with her 7 siblings (including her twin sister).  She graduated from Menasha High School in 1957.  

 

While working at American Can in Menasha, Grace met Jerome Rohde. Within a relatively short time Jerome says, “she had me wrapped around her little finger.”  Jerome’s parents were thrilled!  Perhaps they thought she would “straighten him out.”  The two married on November 15, 1969, and the rest is 54 years of history.  The couple shared many fur babies and loved their nieces and nephews as if they were their own children.

 

Grace loved her pets and loved rescuing dogs and cats.  She also enjoyed watching birds in her backyard. Traveling, fishing (but not putting the worms on the line), sewing and dancing were passions.  She also LOVED to shop with her twin sister.

 

Grace is survived by her loving husband of 54 years (who always called her Honey), Jerome, sister Mary Babano; brothers and sisters-in law: Howard (Martha) Rohde, Janet (Don) Jarchow, Jan Rohde, Marvin Wilson.  She is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other family and friends and her white fat cat Spencer.

 

She was preceded in passing by her parents; siblings: Joyce, Larry, Audrey, Shirley, Marge and Janet. She is further preceded by her parents in law: Howard and Leona Rohde, and brothers and sisters in law: Gerald, Sharon and Janice, and niece Kris Moderson, as well as her dogs Salty, Sammy, & Sara.

 

A memorial service will be held Sunday June 11, 2023, at 2:00pm at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N Superior Street, Appleton.  Friends and family may gather at the funeral home from 1:00pm until the service start.
