Grace Edith (Meyer) Mac Lean, age 92, of Appleton, Wisconsin, entered into eternal life with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 23, 2026. She lived a long life and touched many lives—family, friends, and neighbors—with her kindness, generosity, and Christian faith.
Grace was born on March 16, 1934, in Appleton, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Robert and Edna (Krueger) Meyer. She graduated from Appleton Senior High School in 1952. On May 1, 1955, Grace married John Tyler Mac Lean, and they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage. Together they had two sons, who were her greatest treasures.
When her boys were in school, Grace began working as an insurance secretary for Associate Physicians in Madison. Through the years, she enjoyed doing secretarial work, mostly part-time. She often said it gave her the best of both worlds—being a mother while also having a career. At one point, while serving as a church secretary, she was routinely visited by people who wanted a sympathetic ear, knowing she would patiently listen and offer thoughtful insights.
Grace loved people and enjoyed planning dinner parties. As a wife and mother, she made sure her house was a warm and welcoming home where her family always felt they belonged and could be themselves. That included Duke, the family's beloved schnauzer/dachshund, whom she fed from the dinner table whenever he stood on his hind legs beside her chair—even after she had warned the rest of the family not to get into the habit of feeding the dog at the table.
She loved reading books to her young children on the living room couch. At Christmas, she made sure the house was festively decorated and baked countless batches of warm cookies fresh from the oven, which her sons, Brian and Stuart, frosted and decorated while sitting assembly-line style around the kitchen table. She also enjoyed skiing and other sports with her sons, as well as traveling with them and her husband, John.
She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, hospitality, and unconditional love that will continue to live on through her family.
Grace is survived by her sons, Stuart and Brian (Helen) Mac Lean; her grandchildren, Jonathan, Steven, and Kelly Mac Lean; her sister, Mary (Ron) Siebers; and her sister-in-law, Carol (Jim) Meyer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her daughters-in-law, Debra (Stuart) and Janet (Brian); her sisters, Nancy (Gene) Strube and Betty (Roger) Krueger; and her brothers, Jim (Carol) Meyer and Bob (Blanch) Meyer.
Funeral services will be held on July 11, 2026, at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 North Superior Street, Appleton, Wisconsin 54911. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 3:00 p.m., followed by light refreshments and fellowship.
The Mac Lean family would like to thank everyone for the love and support shown during this difficult time. She was our support, our friend, our teacher, and, most of all, our mother. She will be deeply missed.
