Gordon R. Giebisch

GIEBISCH, GORDON R.

Gordon R. Giebisch, age 88, of Appleton, passed away on June 1, 2009, at his home. Gordon was born on May 21, 1921, to the late Anton and Hattie (Boettcher) Giebisch. He was born above the family butcher shop, Giebisch Meats, which Gordon subsequently operated until 1966. Gordon proudly served his county in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Gladys Meinert on October 16, 1941, at the Trinity Church in Kaukauna. Gordon was an engineer for the Appleton School district, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and watching TV. Gordon was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Gladys; his three children; LuAnn Achterburg of Ringle, Wisconsin; Sharon (Jim) Wright of Darboy; and Susan (Cy) Reinert, Appleton; his five grandchildren, Jody, Brian, Craig, Stacey and Brenda; and his five great-grandchildren, James, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Jade and Sydney; and his sister, Dolores Yingling, Appleton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, and a son-in-law David Achterburg.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 912 N. Oneida Street, Appleton, with Pastor Ron Nielson officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Gordon's neighbors Delmar, Gert and Raymond for their loving care. A memorial has been established in Gordon's name to benefit Zion Lutheran Church.
