Gayle A. Meyers, age 98, of Appleton, went to be with her Lord Jesus on Thursday, August 15, 2013. She died peacefully at Fox River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Gayle was born on February 15, 1915, in Clifton, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Guy A. and Edna (Vandervort) Grovesteen. She married Robert W. Meyers on August 31, 1940; he preceded her in death on June 19, 1978. Gayle was a graduate of Beloit Memorial High School. She worked for the Beloit Daily News, Beloit State Bank and Richard Gerhard, Tax Consultant. Gayle was a member of the Daily News Pioneer Club. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church for over seven decades. Gayle then became a member of Mount Olive Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton. Her hobbies included knitting, golf, baking and painting ceramics. She loved her card clubs and birthday club and enjoyed any opportunity to visit with friends.
Survivors include her son, Thomas (Brenda) Meyers; her grandsons, David (Jill) Meyers and Matthew Meyers; and her brother Darrell (Carol) Grovesteen. She was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Grovesteen and her sister, Madeline (Noris) Barr.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at MOUNT OLIVE EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 930 E. Florida Avenue, Appleton, with Rev. Robert Raasch officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Beloit. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Fox River Nursing and Rehab Center for the love and care given to Gayle.
