Gary “Doc” F. Roou, age 83 of Menasha, WI joined his heavenly kingdom on September 1, 2025. He was born to Foster and Lucille (Gullickson) Roou on August 10, 1942 in Neenah, WI. After graduating from Neenah High School with the class of ’60, he attended the University of Wisconsin Madison for a few years before serving his country in the Army National Guard. After his time in the Army, Gary spent many years in Sales for Home Depot and Tri-City Glass, officially retiring in 2020. Gary met the love of his life, Eleise L’Empereur shortly after and they were married on Valentine’s Day in 1970. Together, they raised 3 wonderful children.

Doc was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and wore those titles with pride and devotion. He would always make it a point to be at every event for his family – showing his support at all the sports and activities he could. He was also quite the character. Everyone who met him loved him. He was a very friendly and approachable man, but could talk longer than paint could stay on the wall. He spent much of his free time reading. You could often find Doc on all the game days cheering on the Packers, Brewers, Badgers, and Notre Dame Men’s Soccer Team – the Fighting Irish. Even outside of game days in his retirement, you might just bump into Doc and Eleise at Kroll’s across from Lambeau Field. Doc had a deep faith in God and clung to the Lord for hope through the roughest times. More than anything, though, Doc loved his family and cherished every moment he could spend with his wife, kids, and grandkids.

Doc will be missed by his wife of 55 years, Eleise; his children, Nicole (Todd) and Brett; his daughter-in-law, Tammy; his grandchildren, Matthew, Kiya, Madison, Morgan, and Mallory; his siblings, Sandy (Don) and Richard (Susan); several siblings on Eleise’s side; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, and dear friends.

Doc is preceded in death by his son, Greg; and his sister, Sue.

A memorial visitation will be held for Doc from 4-6 PM on September 10, 2025 at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St, Appleton, WI 54911 with a memorial service to follow at 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for Doc.

Doc’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and other supporting staff at ThedaCare At Home as well as his sister-in-law, Tina for their support, expert care, and compassion shown to Doc during his time of need. Additionally, thank you to all friends and family who stopped by and showed support and love to Doc in the past few weeks. It meant the world to him.

“Sleep in love”, dad.
