Gary D. “Bird” Mushel, age 59, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Appleton Medical Center. Gary was born on May 17, 1952, in Manitowoc, son of Marvin L. and Jean (Rugowski) Mushel. He graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School in 1971. Gary moved his family from Manitowoc to Appleton in 1989. In October of 2005, he was married to Wendy White at their home in Menasha. Gary was an avid Packer fan. He was a master craftsman that could build anything and had a work ethic that was revered by many. He enjoyed old cars and his motorcycles. Gary was a very loving grandfather and his granddaughter Reese was very important to him.
Gary is survived by his wife, Wendy; two children, Justin (Lisa) Mushel, and Mackenzie Mushel (special friend Brian Ellis); his mother, Jean Mushel; his granddaughter, Reese Mushel; a brother, Kenneth (Barbara) Mushel; a step-daughter, Lori Molaro; step-father, William Holschbach; step-brother, Neil Holschbach; step-sister, Jerilyn Holschbach; his best friends, Larry and Ann Dewey; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin L. Mushel.
The funeral service for Gary will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, TRI-COUNTY CHAPEL, with Chaplain Jordan Kuczwara officiating. Friends may call on Thursday at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gary’s name may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Northeast Wisconsin Chapter, 1800 Appleton Rd. Suite 2, Menasha, (920) 997-0038.
