Gary Louis Cummings passed away on September 15, 2026. He was born May 23, 1949 in New London, WI. Gary was a 1967 graduate of Menasha High School. He served for three years in the U.S. Army, one in Vietnam, where he was decorated for his actions in April of 1970. After his honorable discharge, he attended FVTI. Gary met the love of his life, Nancy Zerbel, and they were married on December 31, 1977. They had two sons, Sol and Aaron. Gary worked a few other vocations before working in the glass trade. After a dozen or so years, he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier and retired in 2013 after 24 years.

Gary’s early hobbies were picture art, writing, and guitar playing, which he enjoyed always. Also, early on, he liked to play cards, chess, and billiards – all with a beer or two. His middle years included playing golf and spending time at home, gardening and doing yard projects. After retirement, Gary spent time traveling or at the casino – always with one or more family members. He also felt a need to connect with the local community and chose to do so by writing now and then to the Post-Crescent with a comment in the open forum section.

Gary is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy Cummings of Menasha; his sons, Sol Cummings of Greenville and Aaron Cummings of Menasha; his sister, Shirley Haertl of Appleton; his siblings-in-law, Ann (Jim) Rice, Faye Robninson, Arla Lambie, and Art Zerbel; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Dorothy Cummings; his brother, Dennis Cummings; his mother-in-law, Laura Zerbel; and his siblings-in-law, Terry Robinson and Beth Zerbel.

In respect to Gary’s wishes, a private family remembrance will be held.
