Gary M. Bowman, age 79, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023 peacefully and surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born on July 16, 1944, to the late Clayton and Emma (Hlavacek) Bowman in Park Falls, WI. He grew up in Wisconsin Rapids, where he met Judith Brown. They were married on May 22, 1965. Gary worked at and retired from Sonoco products, and then worked at Moto Mart in his retirement.
Gary enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, listening to music, spending time with his family, and supporting his grandson Matt’s racing. He appreciated all the friendships he made during his time at the Appleton Retirement Community.
Gary is survived by two children, Michelle Wittman (Tim Korth) and Clayton Bowman (Julie Koga); four grandchildren, Mandy Wittman, Michelle Lee (Ben) Grobe, Matthew Wittman, and Dakota Bowman (Abie Newling); and two great-grandchildren, Axel Grobe and Kaylee Wittman. He is further survived by his siblings, Kathy (Jim) Koziczkowski, Jerry McNaulty (Laurie Harris), Debbie Debyl, Ted (Heather) Bowman, and Billy (Mary) Bowman; siblings-in-law, Jackie Bowman, Carol Calverley, David Brown, and Alice Converse; brother-in-law and best friend, Elmer (Georgia) Bowden; special friend Annette Kettner; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Judy Bowman; parents, Clayton and Emma Bowman; stepmother, Betty Bowman; parents-in-law, Grant and Caroline Brown; son-in-law, Marcelino Wittman; siblings, John Bowman, Mike Bowman, Carol (Rudy) Holevatz, Nancy (Frank) Raasch; and siblings-in-law, Donald “Babe” Debyl, Harry Calverley, Debbie Brown, and Sharon Bowden.
A funeral service in honor of Gary will be held at 6:30 PM on Friday, August 25, 2023, at Wichmann Tri County Chapel, 1592 Oneida St, Menasha. There will be a visitation from 4:00 PM until the time of service. The time for interment in Community Lutheran Cemetery in Appleton will be announced at Friday’s service.
