Frederick “Ted” William Motschman, age 87, died on Thursday, September 22, 2016. Ted was born May 23, 1929 to the late Frederick and Amanda (Smyth) Motschman. After his father Frederick Motschman died, his mother married Frederick Cobb of Green Bay. Ted graduated from Lake Forest Academy and from Lawrence University with a degree in English. Ted built the Mt. La Crosse Ski Resort from the ground up and ran the successful resort for 47 years. The Wisconsin State High School Ski and Snowboard Championships are still held at the resort today. He skied from age two until age 83. Ted also loved fly fishing especially in Ireland. He was a director of the National Ski Areas Association, was a prominent member of the La Crosse community, and was actively involved in Heritage Hill in Green Bay for many years. Ted loved and was loved by everyone he met and was known for his humor, natty clothes, storytelling, and singing.
Ted is survived by his wife of ten years, Maureen Schleisner Motschman; his children: Frederick “Fritz” (Paola) Motschman, Pittsburg, PA, and Caroline Motschman, San Diego, CA; his step-children: Susan H. Schleisner, Elkhart Lake, and Jed (Susan M.) Schleisner, Greenville. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Andrea Motschman, Alejandro Motschman, and Martin Motschman and his step-grandchildren: Madeline “CeCi” Schleisner and Isabella “Isy” Schleisner. He will be greatly missed by everyone especially by his wife Maureen and his beloved Great Dane Seamus. He was preceded in death by his first wife Susan Kohl Motschman of La Crosse and many of his friends.
