Florence “Jigs” Kuehl (nee Joecks), of Appleton, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 21, 2012 at Grand Horizons Assisted Living. Florence was born in Appleton on August 23, 1925, daughter of the Late Ernest and Margaret Joecks (nee Pulger).
After graduating from Appleton West High School, Florence married the love of her life Clarence Kuehl on September 28, 1944. Flo enjoyed meeting new people while bartending at her bar, The Barn Tavern and later at the American Legion. She always loved having a good time, playing cribbage with friends and in tournaments and was on a bowling league until age 81. Flo lived for the holidays, always having a festive pin and decorated cane. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family.
Florence will be deeply missed by her daughter, Karen Sonnleitner; grandchildren Christie (Chris) Woods and Jeremy (Catherine) Sonnleitner; great grandchildren Landon Woods and Gracie Sonnleitner; and her loving sister Joan Sternhagen: along with other relatives and friends. Florence was preceded in death by her parents and husband as well as her daughter Corrine Kuehl; sister, Dolores Gutschow and her son-in-law Richard “Dik” Sonnleitner.
The funeral service for Florence will be held at 6 PM on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME (537 N Superior St, Appleton) with Chaplain Jordan Kuczwara officiating. Friends may call the funeral home directly from 4 PM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Florence's name. Flo's family would like to thank the staff at Grand Horizons Assisted Living for all their kindness and support.
